Last hope TD (Tower Defense) is zombie tower defense game on android, also available on PC and IOS. The game is a pre to postindustrial western comprising of cowboys and Indians. And of course, zombies. Lots and lots of zombies.
Last Hope is at its very core a strategy game. A good bit of strategy is required to successfully protect your town from getting overrun by zombies. Especially when it comes to playing on nightmare difficulty.
General Strategy
Throughout Last Hope, the main objective is protecting various borders and buildings from zombie attacks. These points of interests are designated by a red defense line. To succeed in any level, there are a few rules to abide by.
- Utilize your heroes: Unlike some other tower defense games, the heroes you choose plays a vital role in the success of the mission. One might make the mistake of relying on the defense towers rather the hero, but conversely, it is the heroes who provided the most advantages in the games. Be sure to employ the heroes and make sure they’re getting upgraded. That will make the difference between victory or defeat, especially in the more advance levels.
- Pick the right hero for the job: Each mission requires a different strategic approach. We’ve found that certain heroes perform quite well in any situation, while some are very bad keeping up with different enemies.
- Quality turrets over quantity: When it comes to building towers, it is much more effective to build just enough turrets for the job and upgrading them to their max level rather than spending a ton of resources on building a lot of low-level turrets.
- Turret formation: Where you place your towers is very important. It is best to place towers in a tier formation. Creating a first line of defense, second and so on. The walking paths are a good indication of where to build towers but not always.
Strategy for The Field
The Field is one of the first challenging levels in the game. The most critical area is of course the main boundary designated by the red line. No zombies may cross this line. The bulk of your defense should be guarding that outpost.
The heroes that work best for this level is the princes and the soldier. Together, the zombies don’t stand a chance. The next important thing to note is that the little house by tree will also need to be guarded from the zombies.
One possible formation is to put one hero to guard the house and the other in front of the main defense line. In that case, the best hero should be tasked with guarding the main defense point since it’s most critical.
Any kind of towers will do the trick at first, but the best towers seems to be Arrow, Poison and Stomp. One helpful tip is be prepared for an air invasion down the line. Surface to air defense is one of the key factors to successfully securing the area. Towers should be placed to guard both the house and the exit, focusing on the main defense line first. The trick is to upgrade any and all towers to their max level 5 early on.
Strategy for The Farm
The Farm is yet another tricky level in Last Hope to overcome. In this one, our main objectives are to guard the two barns.
For the farm, our heroes were once again, the princes and the soldier. Each were assigned with guarding one of the barns. I did not see advantages in making distinctions between the heroes for this particular mission since their tasks were basically identical. We also want to build two barracks one next to each barn.
We’ll assign the guys from these barracks as back up for the heroes and to stop any fast runners from getting into the barns. Its important to make sure these fighters are upgraded to at least level four or they start to die off pretty fast, letting zombies infiltrate the barn and attack the already injured farmer.
The tower formation we’ve found to be most ideal is starting off with a few archer towers in front of both barns while making sure each turret has been upgraded to level five.
The farm gets blanketed with flocks of zombie birds. We made sure to build surface to air defense towers (more arrow turrets) after we were secure enough against ground attacks. For that I suggest building additional towers around the center area near the well.
Strategy for The River
As simple as The River level seems, its one that gave a lot of problems to complete. There is a lot of ground to cover here and a lot of zombies are going to try there best to get overtake you and get through.
The strategy here is build turrets along the path that intersect the zombie entry point. We built the turrets in a straight line across, making sure to use the stacks straw for a height advantage. After building enough turrets to cover the entire defensive line behind, it’s time to start upgrading the turrets to their max capacity.
As with the other missions, we used the dependable princess and the solider. We suggest placing one hero on each end of the defense line.
Inti air towers were also critical for the river mission. After building a strong first line of defense, also build turrets outwards in the direction of the defense line so no zombie has chance at sneaking in.
Best heroes
The most valuable hero in Last Hope is arguably the princes. She is one of the first fighters that we get early in the game. Although there maybe stronger fighters later on, the princess will be your strongest contender from the beginning. Here, the power lies in the damage, fire rate and range of her attacks.
The next up after the princes is solider. Although one may think he’s main role would be as a field medic, the solider is however, one of the fiercest fighters wrecking a world of damage on the enemy at fairly long range.
Below are how the heroes stack up against one another, in terms of their overall abilities, advantages and availability, with the first being the best:
- Princes
- Solider
- Mech Warrior
- Scientist
- Witch doctor
- Mechanic
- Scout
- Sheriff
- Barbarian
The most powerful hero is no doubt the Mech Warrior, with the scientist following suite. With those two on your team, playing nightmare difficulty is more like a bad dream.
With all that said, to know the best hero for a mission we must consider who they will be paired with. It’s a good idea choose heroes that complement one another. The other strategy is to choose the ones that excel in one particular category like long range and damage.
The worst Heroes
The worst hero award has to go to the Barbarian. He is not very versatile against different enemies. His attacks are quite weak compared to the others. Enemies tend to get around the Barbarian quite easily which is of course not good.
The second worst hero is the sheriff. The sheriff is definitely in need of firepower boost. The damage, range, and fire rate is just minuscule.
The best towers
The best tower to choose will vary depending on the mission being played and the current stage of the mission. Overall the most useful tower is the arrow turrets. This is a list of different categories of towers in the order of their usefulness:
- Poison
- Stomp
- Anti-Air
- Sentry
- Sniper
What about death orb?
